Everything You Need to Know About ATV Spark Plugs

Spark plugs are an essential component of any vehicle’s engine, including ATVs. If you’re looking for a spark plug upgrade or replacement, the most important thing is to know which one your ATV needs—and that can be a tricky task. Fortunately, we have some helpful tips and information to make sure you get the right spark plugs for your ATV.

Types of Spark Plugs
In order to choose the right spark plugs for your ATV, you need to know what type your vehicle uses. There are two main types of spark plugs: standard and performance. Standard spark plugs are designed to provide reliable operation and long life in everyday applications; they are typically made with a copper core center electrode and offer excellent heat transfer capabilities. Performance spark plugs are designed with a more conductive metal center electrode in order to provide higher power output and better fuel economy than standard plugs.

The two main performance spark plug options available today are iridium and platinum-tipped varieties. Iridium spark plugs last longer than traditional copper-tipped versions as they contain more precious metals and have a much finer point at the tip of their electrodes; however, they tend to be more expensive than other options. Platinum-tipped spark plugs feature platinum welded onto the center electrode which helps them last longer than copper-tipped versions as well; however, they do not last as long as iridium-tipped ones do.

Finding Your Vehicle’s Specifications
Once you know what type of spark plug your vehicle requires, it’s time to find out its specific requirements (like thread size and reach). This information can usually be found in the owner’s manual or on the manufacturer’s website—alternatively, if you don’t have access to either of those resources, you can use an online lookup tool based on your vehicle’s make/model/year combination. Once you’ve gathered all of this information, you’ll be able to narrow down your search for the perfect set of spark plugs for your ATV!
