The Fuel Efficiency of a Utility ATV

One of the most frequently asked questions we get here at ATV Guidance is, “How long does a tank of gas last on an ATV?” The answer to this question depends on a few different factors, including the size of your gas tank, the terrain you’re riding on, and how fast you’re going. In this blog post, we’ll break down each of these factors so you can have a better understanding of how long your tank of gas will last.

In general a utility ATV will have a fuel efficiency of about 20 miles per gallon or 8.5 kilometers per liter

Size of Gas Tank
The first factor to consider is the size of your gas tank. Most utility ATVs have a gas tank that holds between 3.5 and 5 gallons of gas. However, there are some models that have larger or smaller tanks. For example, the Honda Rancher has a 3.4-gallon tank, while the Suzuki King Quad has a 5.3-gallon tank. The size of your gas tank will obviously have an impact on how long it will last—the larger the tank, the longer it will last.

Terrain You’re Riding On
The second factor to consider is the terrain you’re riding on. If you’re riding on flat terrain, you’ll be able to go further on a tank of gas than if you’re riding in hilly or mountainous terrain. This is because it takes more energy to overcome gravity when you’re going up hills or mountains. As such, you’ll use up more gas when riding in hilly or mountainous terrain than when riding on flat terrain.

How Fast You’re Going
The third factor to consider is how fast you’re going. If you’re cruising along at a steady pace, you’ll be able to go further on a tank of gas than if you’re constantly stopping and starting or tearing up the trails at full throttle. This is because it takes more energy to acceleration from a stopped position than it does to maintain a constant speed. So, if you want to make your gas last longer, it’s best to cruise along at a steady pace rather than stopping and starting or tearing up the trails.

The Fuel Efficiency of a Sport ATV
How long a tank of gas will last on an ATV depends on several different factors, including the size of your gas tank, the terrain you’re riding on, and how fast you’re going. Unlike adventure motorcycle fuel efficiency which gives an average of 30-60 mpg, most utility ATVs will get between 15 and 25 miles per gallon (MPG). Just remember that these are estimates—your results may vary depending on the factors mentioned above.
